General Rules of Competition

Winners of Super Major, Major and Qualifying competitions generally play by these easy steps of competition.

  • They leave the gate at a brisk pace without running.
  • Their dogs find birds inbounds.
  • Flushing breeds flush birds.
  • Pointing breeds point birds for at least 3 seconds until the bird takes flight.
  • They shoot birds with clean shots.
  • Their dogs fully retrieve birds back to where the shot was taken.
  • They call time with the allotted number of birds and when the last bird is in hand, and in control.
  • They immediately leash their dog and leave the field.
BDC WORLD RANKINGS

World Rankings are calculated by the amount of Championship points competitors and dogs receive throughout their lifetime of competition.

We use Qualifying events, State events, Major Championships and Super Major Championships to weigh the amount of points to be awarded.

As we progress, those well attended Qualifying and Major events may change relative to the attendance and quality of competition.

The BDC Events Page will let competitors know which events will be National Qualifiers, National Majors, and National Super Majors.

State Championships will now fall under Qualifiers, unless otherwise approved by BDC.

Prior to 2006, BDC awarded State Championships 10 points for 1st, 8 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd, 4 points for 4th, and 2 points for 5th.

Qualifying Events

These competitions are generally smaller events used to train and qualify your dog to the National Championship.

Champion points for National Qualifying events are awarded as follows:

BDC QUALIFYING POINTS

Qualifying points are different than Championship points, in that these points are used to qualify dogs to the National Championships and break ties in World Rankings.

These points will now be calculated based on the number of dogs competing in any event and within a specific division.

Qualifying points will be assigned based on the number of dogs competing in a said event.   For instance:

20 dogs in a Division:

1st Place:   Receives 20 qualifying points
68th Place:   Receives 1 qualifying point

All dogs which compete in Qualifying, Major, and Super Major Events will receive qualifying points based on the number of dogs entered in each division.

Qualifying points will be the criteria used to invite the Elite 60 dogs in each division to the National Championships.
